On Sunday May 1, 2005, Rockford ScreamFest opened its doors to other local Haunted
Attractions for a day of Haunt-related seminars and demonstrations. There were well over 100 people in attendance, from about a dozen haunts in the surrounding area. Driving hours to get there, Haunters came all the way from Green Bay, Wisconsin and as far south as Bloomington, Illinois.
The day began with Haunt tours. The ScreamFest crew had their attraction fully functional and even provided tour guides to answer attendee’s questions. After the tours and some socializing, the educational activities commenced with a series of seminars and demonstrations. First on the docket was a panel discussion entitled “Help, I’m a virgin Haunt Actor!”. This was an interactive discussion, where audience members were able to ask questions and have them answered by a panel of veteran Haunt actors. During the discussion, the panel addressed topics like: how to act effectively, how to deal with hecklers and how to use different scare techniques. Some of the other subjects covered during the rest of the day were how to apply make-up, character development and team building.

Airbrushing 101 Seminar
Presented by Rick Zawodniak (Dream Reapers Haunted
House)
As the title implies, this was a tutorial on the basics of airbrushing. It detailed what equipment to use, how to use it, make-up application tips and more. At the end of the seminar, there was a demonstration illustrating how to create a basic ‘ghoul’ in a few simple steps.

The presentations were all very informative and worthwhile. Along with the seminars, an “all you can eat” pizza lunch was served for a modest $3.00 fee. Soft drinks were also available for only $0.50. Not only was this event an educational experience, it was also an
enjoyable social gathering. It was nice to see the positive interaction and bonding of Haunters from different attractions. I would like to thank Randy Daniels, Kevin Dells, Nicole Leipski and everyone else who helped organize this great event.
