The Seminars
The latest installment of the Knowledge 4 The Carnage
Haunter Seminars was held at the Realm of Terror in Round Lake Beach, Illinois
on Sunday May 21, 2006. Some of the topics of discussion were scare tactics, character development, haunting healthy, costuming
and more! I enjoyed the fact that a number of the seminars were very interactive, allowing
members of the audience to give their feedback to the group. There was
also an improv
workshop, where people were put in groups to act out various scenarios,
similar to what you see on the popular TV show "Whose
Line Is It Anyway". Halfway through the day, everyone took a break
for lunch. It was pretty convenient that pizza and pop were available
onsite for only $5. While people were given the choice to eat wherever
they wanted, most attendees stayed at Kristof's for lunch, taking advantage of
the opportunity to network with other haunters.

Pie Payback
Pie payback gave everyone in attendance the
opportunity to "pie" their favorite haunt character/owner/webmaster,
for only $1 per throw. The targets were Bryan "Cletus"
Laughlin (Dream Reapers),
Ozo the Clown (Dream
Reapers), Steve Kristof (Realm
of Terror), Reggie "Payne" Grenwych (Rockford
Screamfest), Ramie Englehart (Rockford
Screamfest), J.D. (Rockford
Screamfest) and Adam Drendel of HauntedIllinois.com.
The proceeds went to the Dustin Diamond Foundation, to benefit The Children's
Hospital of Wisconsin. It all started off
innocent enough, but soon simple pie throwing turned into "pie
mugging". It seemed that there was an endless supply of pies and by
the end, all the victims were smeared from head to toe with sticky whipped
cream. After sitting out in the hot sun for a while, everyone reeked of
spoiled dairy products. Lucky were those individuals who had the forethought
to bring a change of clothes! At least I had a fresh shirt to change in
to. It was pretty disgusting, but it was definitely worth it,
considering we raised money for such a good cause. Perhaps next time we
should pick a fundraiser that is a little less
messy.
Kristof's Entertainment Center
After the formal presentations were over
many attendees stayed later, to take advantage of some of the fun activities
that Kristof's Entertainment Center had to offer. People had a lot of
fun things to choose from: bowling, mini golf, go-karts, billiards, arcade
games and more. My personal favorite was the go-kart track. (Note:
If given a choice, pick the purple car!).
Overall, it was a great day. The seminars and
workshops were very enlightening. Not only was it an educational
experience, it was also a lot of fun interacting with other Haunters.
Kudos to Kristof's Entertainment Center for hosting this event and also to
Nicole Leipski and all the others involved in organizing it. I look
forward to seeing what they have to offer at the next Knowledge 4 The
Carnage.
