2009 Terror on the Fox Haunted House Tour

You usually don't see a haunted house open its doors outside of October; however, on Wednesday April 29, 2009, the Terror on the Fox haunted attraction gave approximately 130 Haunt Industry professionals a fully operational tour.  Why open up a haunted house in April, you ask?  Well, this event was all part of the pre-Hauntcon haunted house tour.  The evening began with a nice buffet dinner at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin.   After eating and socializing a bit, the group moved outside to a waiting train.  To kick off the haunt tour, there was a short train ride from the Railroad Museum to the nearby attraction.  On the train, fog and strobe lights helped to set the mood for the remainder of the evening.  In order to get to the attraction, after getting off the train, patrons had to traverse a dark wooded path, illuminated only by Tiki torches.  Along the way, there was some great line entertainment.  Various characters, a number of them wearing oversized costumes by Gore Galore, were entertaining the people waiting in line.

The haunted house had a phenomenal two-story facade, with a colorful light show and ghouls dancing on the second story.  Upon entering the attraction, it was easy to see how this event got named as one of the Top 10 Haunted Houses in the country by Hauntworld Magazine. All of the scenes were highly detailed and very realistic.  The use of accent lighting, sound effects and artificial scents really added to the creepy atmosphere of the attraction.  Most of the areas inside the house were very dimly lit, which provided a lot of great hiding places for actors.  In addition to some nice pop-out scares, many of the actors were very interactive with the patrons, which made the experience that much more entertaining.  Throughout the attraction, there were a number of high-end animatronic props, as well.  It was a lot of fun and I'm glad I had the opportunity to attend.  Special thanks to the Bad Boys Scenic Design crew for opening up in the off-season and putting on such a great performance!
