| Overall Score:|
|Scare Factor: Very High | Atmosphere: Very Good|
Visibility/Location: The location on the grounds of an old State Hospital Asylum Infirmary. This gives the haunted feeling a real feel.
Wait Entertainment: Actors are walking and scaring. I have gone several years in a row and they have different entertainment from info on the state hospital to scary movie projections. We got there early and didn't wait long but still have actors walking around and scaring people.
Length of Event: We took a full 30 minutes to get through the hospital...Just when you thought it was over it was only half done!
Actor Performance: The actors were VERY scary and I was startled several times through the house. They are good at sneaking up on you as well as jumping out.
Patron Flow Inside Attraction: We were kept moving without feeling rushed. There was 6 of us in a group and it was a perfect size to be scared but have personalized frightening experiences.
Appropriate Ages: This is DEFINTELY an adult haunted house. I cannot even bring my 14 year old. In addition, my daughter's 18 year old friend refused to come cause he knew it would be too scary....
Props / Special FX: There is everything from spiders, rats, scary clowns, and of course mental patients. Whatever your phobia, they probably have it in the building somewhere.
Costumes / Make-up: The makeup is horror-like. From the masks that represent many differnt horror films to the patients who have grotesque faces.
Summary: We have gone every year for the past 5 years. It is different every year and we are NEVER disappointed. Not only is this haunted house scary due to the actors but it is also scary because it is located on the old state asylum that has it's own "ghosts". Many people believe that this area is "really" haunted which gives it a unique experience.
I was impressed this year because they a great variety of scary elements. They had gore and blood in one area. In another area they had rats and spiders. No matter what you personally find scary, they probably had a room that touched that phobia. My daughter is not easily scared and she was scared by the area that had rats.
Just when you thought it was over, it was only half done. It was great and I would suggest if you haven't made the trip to a TRULY haunted area, that you make the trip to Bartonville for a truly haunted house.
