|Scare Factor: High | Atmosphere: Very Good|
Visibility/Location: Was there ample parking? Yes, across the street there was an empty lot, also a church parking lot, and room on nearby streets.
Was the parking area in close proximity to the event? Yes.
Was the event easy to find? Yes, right on Irving Park Road St. Pascal's school is easy to find. A large banner hung over the school enterance on the Irving Park Road side.
Wait Entertainment: Consisted of spooky music pumping through some speakers and three dressed actors. This was not the highlight of the event. The wait was inside the school hallway (very warm). As we approached the entrance to the basement underneath St. Pascal's, we crossed into a dark / black light lit courtyard that separated the school from the chapel which transitioned us from the school hallway to the underworld scenes awaiting us.
Length of Event: Seemed like 15 - 20 min. I was very pleased with the length. I did not seem quick.
Actor Performance: Excellent. The actors were in character and motivated. They came close, but left us some "personal" space without touching us. They popped out swiftly to scare us.
Patron Flow Inside Attraction: Excellent. After we crossed into the courtyard they explained the rules ("no touching actors!" three times), then held us for about 3-4 min. When we entered, there was no one in sight, and no one behind us. We felt alone. Scary.
Appropriate Ages: Junior High and up. Preferably high school on up. They allow small children, but this is a big mistake. We were frightened (adults 30+) so I cannot see bringing younger children. There are some disturbing masks that are not appropriate for children, and a feeling of being lost in the Underworld.
Props / Special FX: There is a room where we felt caught in some webbing which felt really creepy. We had to bend down for some low clearances which added to the atmosphere. All hallways were heavily fogged, excellent room separation and transition. And, I won't ruin the surprise, but the use of mirrors in one room supported multiple actors coming at us in a really scary and great scene.
Costumes / Make-up: Good masks and makeup. Not out of this world, but good job. Pumpkinhead costume actor in waiting area was excellent.
Summary: I like the Underworld concept which was a change up in the overall theme. The church location added to the atmosphere vs. strip mall. The pacing was good, timing on target, good scares, and the scene with the mirrors left us with the desire to GET OUT of the Underworld. Excellent bang for the buck, not overpriced.
