|Scare Factor: Medium | Atmosphere: Very Good|
Visibility/Location: easy to get to. a little tricky getting out of there at night if you didn't know the area, roads leading out of the park not well marked
Wait Entertainment: plenty of halloween decorations to look at when you're in line
Length of Event: can easily spend an entire day there. we arrived at 1pm and stayed till 1030 pm
Actor Performance: good costumes. actors looked cool. during the day they mainly "cruised" the park and didn't interact all that much with guests
Patron Flow Inside Attraction: a bit disorganized. lines would form outside attractions and weave "wherever". all lines moved slow. the average wait time was an hour in line. even the snack food lines had a half an hour line.
Appropriate Ages: 8 and up
Props / Special FX: very good special effects throughout the park including "blood fountains", graveyard scenes, UFO crash sites, lots of fog covered walkways, etc
Costumes / Make-up: Hollywood like costumes and makeup, 1st rate
Summary: This park definitely provides an entire day's worth of entertainment. The special effects and overall Halloween atmosphere in the park was 1st rate. My favorite attraction was a simulator ride going thru a haunted amusement park hosted by Elvira, Mistress of the night. My favorite display was the UFO crash site simulating the alleged UFO crash at Roswell, New Mexico. There's a huge flying saucer display as well as assorted aliens trapped in freeze tube type containers. The walkway leading to the UFO area is covered in fog.
The main draw back with the park is the lines. Be prepared to spend hours waiting in line if you go there. As already mentioned, the average wait for us was an hour per line. The most popular attraction, the "Necropolis Haunted House", had a 90 minute wait by the time we got to it at 9pm. The restaurants and snack bars all had at least a 30 minute line to get served. We skipped having anything for supper because we didn't want to burn more time standing in line.
Overall, we had a very nice day there. However, if we go back again we'll probably go on a Sunday rather than a Saturday and hope the lines will be a bit shorter so we can do more.
We saved quite a bit of time, and a little money, by getting our tickets in advance on the internet using six flag's website rather than waiting an hour in the ticket lines at the park.
|Scare Factor: Medium | Atmosphere: Good|
Visibility/Location: plenty of parking. a little tricky finding it in the dark if you've never been there before.
Wait Entertainment: several costumed actors keep the crowd on their toes while waiting for the events.
Length of Event: you can see all the attractions in 60-90 minutes.
Actor Performance: very good. actors convincing and enthusiastic in their roles.
Patron Flow Inside Attraction: well organized, good steady flow thru attractions
Appropriate Ages: 7 and up
Props / Special FX: scattered torches, and bonfires throughout the grounds of a farm-like park in the middle of the country gives the park an eerie, halloween feel.
Costumes / Make-up: detailed, authentic make-up including madmen, zombies, etc
Summary: This event is held at Rockome Gardens, a family oriented theme park outside Arcola, Illinois. The location out in the country, where it's pitch black at night, seems very fit for Halloween. Visitors to the attractions walk along the path of the outdoor park. Along the way there are several attractions to participate in including a hayride, tram ( that looks like a train ) ride, haunted prison, corn maze, and several others.
My favorite part was the actors, who seemed to pop out of the many dark shadows the park has and scare the guests. Vampires, madmen, zombies, and several other characters lurked about the park. All the actors played their parts well and were enthusiastic.
Being a theme park, there were several nice places to eat at within the park including fast food areas, a sit down family restaurant, bakery, and an ice cream shop. My favorite was a stand set up in front of a bon fire selling hot chocolate and hot dogs.
I would describe this park as more fun than frightening. If you wish to be scared to death, I don't believe that would happen. The scariest attraction in the park was the haunted prison. That did contain some shockers and gruesome scenes such as crazy killers and their victims, executions, etc. However, even in these scenes, after the initial shock wore off it seemed more entertaining than scary.
I believe families would probably enjoy this park the most. Full price tickets are a bit on the expensive side, though you get quite a bit for your money. We saved quite a bit by getting coupons from Rockome Garden's website on the internet.
