Visibility/Location: Gilson is a small town, so if you're following a long trail of cars on the highway to Gilson anytime around Halloween, chances are they're all going to the haunted house. Just follow them and you won't miss it.

Wait Entertainment: I was impressed that there was a food stand in both the outside wait area and the inside wait area. The food smelled great! The actors walking around outside didn't really stick to chracter. They often stopped and chatted w/girls or sat and drank hot cocoa.

Length of Event: 1/2 hour wait, maybe 20 min. inside.

Actor Performance: OK, I guess, for a small-town production. They mostly just jumped out & yelled, "Boo". The helpers inside the maze were rude.

Patron Flow Inside Attraction: average

Appropriate Ages: all ages

Props / Special FX: There was an animatronic body hanging from the ceiling that was pretty lifelike. Other than that, I was quite annoyed by the whole experience. The spinning tunnel & revolving room made me sick to my stomach and gave me a headache for 2 days afterward. The pitch-black maze at the end was disconcerting to say the least. Wandering around in total darkness and vomiting - yes, that's exactly how everyone loves to spend their Friday night!

Costumes / Make-up: Alright. Stuff you could buy at any costume shop.

Summary: I would have found the Gilson haunted school more frightening without all the cheap Halloween decor and sound effects. I appreciate the fact that it is a historic landmark, and that the event is held to raise funds for the site. I suppose it would be scary to a child or a teenage girl. If you're looking for something to do with the family for Halloween, this might be a good idea. If you're a serious horror/haunted house fan, you will not be impressed by this one. I do not recommend it if you are prone to migraines or motion sickness.
