|Scare Factor: Medium | Atmosphere: Very Good|
Visibility/Location: A local treasure, if you know the Charlestowne Mall it's easy enough to find, but there's no signage from the road.
Wait Entertainment: I was alone and it was late on a weeknight, so- no line, no wait.
Length of Event: Maybe 15-20 min. I had plenty of time to soak in the details.
Actor Performance: Rather than in your face shock, I got a more subtle treatment...very creepy. They tailor the show to the group, from all-ages to grown-up.
Patron Flow Inside Attraction: Not an issue on my visit. The house design has a simple flow.
Appropriate Ages: All. They'll ramp it up if you're not towing little ones.
Props / Special FX: Beautiful! The scenes are highly detailed, with quite elaborate illusion effects to get you in a "spirited" mood. Fun in a gothic way.
Costumes / Make-up: I only got to see one character for more than a glimpse- while the costume is exaggerated rather than realistic, the use of it was excellent.
Summary: Designed by Terry Evanswood, a pro magician, this show is more a traditional dark show than a shock-extreme haunt. Both psychological and nostalgic, it has a Victorian, almost carny feel to it. There's plenty of humor in the details, but you're never safe from a surprise or two. The halls are quite black, but the mall ceiling can be seen-the open top can be ignored easily enough, as there is plenty of creepy eye candy as you go through. At $4, the bang for the buck is through the roof here. Perfect eerie family Halloween fun, and a taste of what haunts were before slasher films. Just imagine visiting The Addams Family...for real!
