|Scare Factor: High | Atmosphere: Good|
Visibility/Location: For everyone familiar with Krape Park, the bandshell is easy to find. However, if you are not familiar with the area or the park it may be hard to find. The yellow signs are rather hard to spot in the dark. but there is a large sign on the bandshell that is lit up pretty bright, making it easier to spot. and there are also large flashing light displays right next to the Haunted Bandshell. the positive is that the park is basically a giant loop, so you are bound to find the bandshell eventually. Parking for the Bandshell is plentiful and really close to the entrance.
Wait Entertainment: the wait was not very long and the people taking money and the guides were entertaining in their own way. They are very personable with all the Bandshell visitors. they were very good at talking younger kids into going into the Haunted Bandshell (some of the kids seemed REALLY scared). They do say that the Haunted Bandshell is for children 10 and older, and that advice should be followed. There were actors making apprearances on the roof and around the entrance area. they were more entertaining than scary. but once you get inside the Bandshell, the actors get more serious.
Length of Event: The Haunted Bandshell itself was very long. Definately worth the $4 charged. Inside seemed like a maze. Luckily there is a guide that follows the groups through so you don't get lost.
Actor Performance: Great. they seemed to be having a good time. the Scary Birthday Clown was a riot. They are big into jumping out at you and invading your person space, making the atmosphere creepy and a good haunted house.
Patron Flow Inside Attraction: great. the guide keeps you going in the right direction but also allows you to go slow where needed (inside dark hallways) and experience the props and actors.
Appropriate Ages: 10 and older definately. I think it would be more appropriate for Jr. High and High School aged students. But apparently they also have a non-scary version for children under 10. So that may be something to look for in the future.
Props / Special FX: one of the rooms has a great special effect. it involves black lights and a little fog to help camo the suprise. There are also alot of creepy spiders (Personally i really dont like spiders so this played on my fears), there is clowns, dark hallways, jumping out from corners, suprises around every corner. I have been to the Haunted Bandshell in the past and this year it has improved. Its pretty good for the Freeport area.
Costumes / Make-up: the costumes all fit each individual room's theme. E.g. clown in the scary birthday party room, butcher in the bloody room. they are generic but the actors and atmosphere make them work.
Summary: Definately an upgrade from Haunted Bandshells of the past. the price has been dropped this year to only $4 and it is well worth it. I plan to visit again on Halloween night with some different friends and apparently there is also glow in the dark mini golf on Halloween night. I was impressed with the quailty of this Haunted Bandshell. Krape Park is a favorite among locals anyways, so it is a great setting to this Haunted house.
