Visibility/Location: Basement of the dead is hidden behind a pub on the lower level of the river walk area, but they had a bus out in front and signs that pointed to the haunted house so it was an easy find.

Wait Entertainment: This place was top notch for wait entertainment. When we get there, there was already a decent crowd and they had a bunch of actors running everywhere around the whole area and by the time we got out of the haunted house the lines were packed and there were even more actors outside interacting with everyone. There was also a dj that was playing music in a costume to keep the crowd excited for the haunted house.

Length of Event: Basement of the dead was about 15-20 minutes and Shattered was about 5-7 minutes long.

Actor Performance: This place has some of the best actors I have ever seen before. They really love their job and get really into character. They do a good job of invading your personal space and incorporate some really intense scares.

Patron Flow Inside Attraction: We never once ran into another group. They did a really good job of spacing out all the other groups from one another which is very pleasing since a lot of the other Illinois haunts send way too many people through at once.

Appropriate Ages: 13 and up. There are a lot of high intense scares involved in this attraction.

Props / Special FX: Phenomenal! They did such an amazing job here. So many unique props, rooms, and special effects that were very intense.

Costumes / Make-up: Another very strong area here. They used a lot of very realistic costumes and make-up on the monsters. It was almost hard to tell if there was an actual person under the costume or if these were real monsters; that is how amazing their costumes and monsters are. Very realistic and very well done.

Summary: Overall, this was my group's favorite haunted house of the four that we went to this past weekend. There is so much that goes into this haunted house and it is amazing how much detail and scares are in that building. They had a lot of very memorable scenes such as the satanic church room, the room with the giant spiders that were attacking you, and of course the best and coolest room I have ever seen before, which was the carousel room where the floor actually moved with you as you walked. That was by far the most unique thing I have ever seen in a haunted house before and my group and I could not get over how much we loved that whole scene. It was very effective and scared everyone in our group. We also loved Shattered; although it was a shorter haunt, the 3-d effect of this whole place was very effective. A lot of very intense scares were held in this attraction, and although it felt kind of short it was very fun to go through as well. Well done this year Basement of the Dead. They seem to love their job and keeping their customers happy as they keep getting better and better every year.

Visibility/Location: A little hard to find if you're not familiar with the area but if you can find the big casino then you can't miss their signs/bus down the street pointing where the event is located.

Wait Entertainment: Personally I like the outside wait entertainment just as much as I like the haunt itself and boy these guys never disappoint. I'm a regular with this haunt so seeing the two stilt walkers kickass in just about every aspect was no surprise to me this year. They had a few actors with chainsaws which is always fun to watch because people love running away from chainsaws. I believe there was a vampire as well who interacted with many customers including me and my cousin (funny dude). There was one actor who particularly caught my eye, he carried a hammer and shook/twitched violently as he grunted random nonsense/ran up and down the event, I've never seen someone so engulfed in their character. A live DJ was spinning tunes and handed out free items to the crowd as well! I never catch myself bored looking at these actors do their job. Great job once again here

Length of Event: 18 minutes

Actor Performance: Highly energetic actors, don't know where these guys get their actors. Some actors aren't as hyper in certain areas but make up for it by saying clever lines/keeping body movement creepy

Patron Flow Inside Attraction: Ran into a group once but wasn't too much as an issue since they ended up running off screaming their heads off

Appropriate Ages: 12+

Props / Special FX: Nice props throughout the haunt, couldn't differentiate actors and props a few times. Although the basement owns a few props I've seen at numerous other haunts a million times, they place it/use it in the best scenery I've seen.

Costumes / Make-up: Always loved the mask these guys have had. Very unique and dark and all seem to intertwine as one. Makeup was decent as well, didn't see too much of an inbalance of makeup/masks.

Summary: I don't know where to start. Basement of the dead is everything you've ever been afraid of. A visual reality of all the nightmares you've ever had. Year after year these guys continue to impress me, they seem to have done a lot of remodeling this year and I've never seen some of these rooms in other haunts in my life. From gore, dolls, clowns, spiders, chambers, and just eeriness, these guys nail each scenery to the core. Didn't notice as much fog as I'd like to but wasn't let down by the actors in the room/props. Some actors are very well placed in the darkness and caught me off guard a few times. Rooms that stuck out to me were the hospital, spider room, and the church. Each set felt like it was it's own (if that makes any sense). Actors were everywhere and were relentless. Each set had great use of lighting to disorientate you. A few dark hallways were in the event as well but I feel like they needed more actors in them. From the moment to buying me ticket and leaving the exit door, the basement has kept the intensity high and actors on key. Overall I'd like to say that this haunt is and continues to be my personal favorite haunt to go to. Great job again this year guys.
