Visibility/Location: Located at Three Sister Park in Chillicothe, this haunt is VERY well lit off of Rt. 24 heading into town.

Wait Entertainment: Each area has it's own queue line and the flow was relatively simple. There were no roaming actors or entertainment while standing in line. At one point, a clown cut through the queue line, completely out of character and was smiling while talking to her friends and then sitting over by a barrel fire.

Length of Event: 15 minutes per area.

Actor Performance: While some members of our group got some really good jump scares, the majority of the haunt was lackluster at best. The trail has a clown that was doing an incredible back bend twist that simply did not look human when we were walking up and we all were in awe at her skills. Unfortunately, that was all she did. The majority of the actors were high school age or younger and appeared to have very little guidance with what they are doing.

Patron Flow Inside Attraction: We successfully tried to pace through this haunt to avoid catching up to any patrons and avoid anybody catching up to us. The queue line to the mansion was at a standstill for what seemed like an eternity with nothing going on around the lines.

Appropriate Ages: All ages

Props / Special FX: All of the animatronics in the woods moved incredibly slowly and were well lit. This really took away from the scare as they will only get you if you aren't paying attention. It seemed like all of them were running on very low air pressure and they just weren't effective at all. The props themselves were incredibly ornate and eye catching, they just moved at an abysmal rate of speed. The individual areas on the trail each had a 2x4 lip that is poorly lit and easily tripped over. At one point, there was a larger step going down that could not be seen due to blocked sight exiting and I almost fell on my face. I spent a lot more time looking down at my feet making sure I didn't trip than I did enjoying the trail.

Moving up to the haunted mansion, I was completely confused. There is a butler prop standing at the entrance with Mike Myers off to the side with an idling chainsaw. Once inside, the theme was medieval knights and brick walls in the queue line with a large plastic skull and red LED lights for eyes on the wall. In the corner was a curio cabinet full of multiple items blocked off by chicken wire. Upon examination, there was a 23W light bulb box sitting in plane view on display. Why there was trash on display is beyond me. Once at the front of the line, there was a staff member sitting next to a backpack and a water bottle asking how many are in our group. We were told to go inside and watch the video, once the video is over, we could proceed. This is the root cause of the queue line moving as slowly as it did as the rules video was around a minute long, hard to understand, and poorly animated. The entire mansion was automated with maybe 10 actors inside. The triggers on each animatronic would fire shortly after I had walked past causing me to miss what every single one of them would do.

Costumes / Make-up: Sadly, the majority of the costumes we saw were poor quality and did nothing to hide the t-shirts and jeans worn underneath by the actors.

Summary: This haunt has 3 attractions again this year, a haunted trail, a haunted mansion, and zombie paintball. This is the first time I've been to Spider Hill in years. I decided to bring my young daughters with me this year to make it their first "big" haunt they've ever experienced. Unfortunately, Spider Hill did not deliver this year. My youngest is only 9 years old and scared of the movie Jurassic Park and when we were walking out to the parking lot she said "well, that was terrible". My older daughter was just completely confused because all of her friends told her that this was the scariest thing they had ever seen.

Overall, I did not even get startled a single time and even my daughters thought we must have missed something because it was not what they had expected. When we exited the haunted mansion, Mike Myers was right there to rev up the chainsaw we had just watched him idle earlier. This really ruined the night for me as Mike Myers doesn't carry a chainsaw, his mask wasn't even tucked in, and very little care was given to his performance. That is the risk a haunt runs when using iconic horror film characters. They either need to be 100% on par with the movies or they become another person in a mask. I cannot recall a time that I had felt less appreciated as a customer as he seemed as though he just wanted the night to be over.

Visibility/Location: Located at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, using the GPS will bring you right to the location... The attraction has been here for years, so anyone who previously has attended already knows where to go.

Wait Entertainment: There is usually some kinda waiting entertainment in the main waiting/concessions area, not much tonight ... The trail had several monsters walking throughout the line, but hard to determine whether they worked the trail and was just walking on a break or actually positioned to work the crowd.. The haunted house had no one working or walking through the line, much needed here!

Length of Event: The entire 3 events totaled around 45 minutes, not including the waiting in various lines ..

Actor Performance: Most of the actors done a fair job, some better than others, but overall nothing too intense.. The trail actors done probably the best job of the other event actors..

Patron Flow Inside Attraction: The flow throughout the haunted house has a few issues, there shouldn't be that much of an issue here, however there is.. The trail also gets some bottlenecking issues that could be much better handled, but nothing too bad ..

Appropriate Ages: I would say an 8 year could easily handle this haunted house event.

Props / Special FX: The props are acceptable, however getting very dated - the event has maintained pretty much the same exact things throughout all its years of existence, it's definately time to update here.. The haunted house entry lobby is exactly as always, nothing has been added.. The haunted house could really use some CGI updates, after all it's time to modernize the haunt ! Nothing to speak of with the automated props either, the trail had the same couple as last year and the timing was far from perfect.

Costumes / Make-up: Costumes and makeup was standard at best, it just appears that the volunteers just toss on whatever they have and show up, detail somewhat lacking here.. A majority of the scares are just masks, again just whatever volunteers could find...

Summary: Spider Hill Haunted Attraction has a solid following and is far from a cheap priced haunt, however it appears that people are just riding this out to the end... There is definitely a need for vast improvements here and it wouldn't be that difficult with the revenue being generated here.. They have a good location with great community support, but it seems lacking in the creative skills to advance to a great attraction, no doubt new blood would be a welcome addition here!
The haunted house, trail, and the paintball event lacked the number of workers to pull off an attraction this large, they could have easily used twice the volunteers they had tonight.
Overall, an interesting experience for someone who's never been to Spider Hill, but after seeing basically the same exact thing year after year, it's wearing thin ! I would love to see this event return next year with much more bang for the buck, but probably not likely !
