| Overall Score:|
|Scare Factor: Medium | Atmosphere: Good|
Visibility/Location: Psychosis is tucked back in an industrial lot with little light. There are red lights and a large sign as you get closer but unless you know what you are looking for you may miss this one.
Wait Entertainment: There was no wait when we got there but there were several actors that messed around with us while we checked in and handed over our Groupons. The one character that is a staple actually ate our tickets and then proceeded to mess with our clothes and generally goof around with us. He is a mix of creepy and silly and always leaves an impression.
Length of Event: i would say about 20 to 25 minutes.
Actor Performance: Overall very good performances by the actors. Most are silly and mess with you more than just yell or try to jump out at you. Standouts are the Pig butcher who is chained to the walls, the amnesia stricken red neck in the kitchen, and the old man with the cane who showed us his broken thumb nail and warned us of the sliding cage ahead.
Patron Flow Inside Attraction: We actually caught up to one group but slowed down a bit and then the crazy guy in the padded room actually made us stay to play games with him thereby allowing the group to move on. Very well done.
Appropriate Ages: I would say 12 and up because of language that some of the actors use but it's nothing too severe.
Props / Special FX: Special effects and props are minimal at Psychosis and always have been. The little they do have is decent though and there are a few cool scenes such as the graveyard with hand made trees and the zombie area complete with glowing toxic waste that pours from barrels.
Costumes / Make-up: Overall nothing to elaborate but the costumes fit the theme of the area nicely.
Summary: Psychosis has been a haunt I visit at least every couple years. They always do something a little different and make themselves to be a more interactive haunt than most. While I would say that 2016 was the weakest of the interactive parts and perhaps the haunt in general I still feel that they do a great job with what they have and do it while moving locations around since they left Elgin to go all the way up to Antioch.
Actors are good and the haunt contains things that while may not be over the top or completely different are done in a way that only Psychosis does it as. They mix humor with scares and a bit of creepy and the atmosphere is definitely a good one. I would recommend Pyschosis to anyone in the area and even those who may be willing to travel a bit for a cheap yet good haunt.
