Visibility/Location: Easy to find using GPS. It did bring us around the back though, rather than to the front parking lot.

Wait Entertainment: There was a dj and a tent, along with a clown wandering around messing with people in the lot. In the line inside there was a fun strange guy and his puppet along with a nasty clown working the lines and taking pictures. The line was only about 15 minutes long, so there were no worries with that.

Length of Event: 10 minutes, in the haunt.

Actor Performance: Some did really well, others were needing some attention. Effort was high though... Nobody was being lazy. The guys in the room with crap on the floor traded words with me in a very humorous way when I informed him of the crap on the ground. A few listened very carefully to any names we said so they could taunt us with those names. Great job in this guys! The barker at the beginning was funny as well. While he made fun of me being a big guy it was creative so I laughed. It can get and was annoying when some actors simply say, "oh a big boy, I want to eat you" over and over again in every room. This did happen a bit. Remember, I don't mind in the slightest, as Im not self conscious, when it is creative, it just stupid when its like "Oh he is fat" Ya know? When you are creative about it, we all get a laugh! Great job to all of those who bantered with me and others. Your wit is amazing.

Patron Flow Inside Attraction: No problems here. That went great!

Appropriate Ages: 10+

Props / Special FX: You guys did well with what you had. The rooms were lightly themed and you made the most of it. I think you could use alot more though, and I was drawn to the rafters above more than I wanted to be. Great start though.

Costumes / Make-up: All of this seemed great! No complaints here. The makeup and costumes went along well with each room. Great work yall.

Summary: Sickhouse was a good haunt. I think it has room to grow, and good leadership to do so. While the rooms were not totally up to par, it was still a good show. There were very short lines when I went, and I hope this is not because people don't think it will be good. If you are in the south burbs, it is definitely worth checking out. For real! I hope they capitalize on what is going well, and continue to grow.

Visibility/Location: Well... This needs help. GPS will lead you to the Metra station which is where the buses pick you up to take you back to the haunt. Actually I love the bus through the woods thing. I think it creates an atmosphere all by itself. The first time we attended earlier in the month this went off without a hitch. We got right on the bus from the metra station and took off with just about 15 of us on the bus. The second time I went, Oct. 22, the metra lot was packed full and we were being directed quite a few miles back from where we came to a completely packed highschool parking lot. We waited about 35 minutes for a single bus to show up. We almost bailed, but I am glad we didnt. I felt bad for Hellsgate because all of this parking and bus routing has got to be taking its toll on the owners.

Wait Entertainment: The good news is that when we made it to the haunt the line was incredibly short. There really wasn't any line entertainment per say, but like I said it was a short line and we made it through pretty quickly with our fast pass. By the way you can get a fast pass for $20 at the ticket booth which is $5 less than general admission even just by giving them another ticket from any other haunt you visited this year. This is a great deal!

Length of Event: There is another que line in there but with that included it was about 30 minutes or so.

Actor Performance: Awesome! Just awesome! So many unique characters were running around and scaring people. I know I saw Anthony Glenn a real pro out working the outdoors on my visit! Others were riding the opening and closing gates to the mansion. It was phenomenal. Inside the house was great as well. The feel of this place was awesome. I got some great scares from the actors right before the kitchen popping their heads out between the fallen shelves. Even the actors playing repetitive rolls on the ceiling or in the picture frames sold the show! There were only a few points of weakness. And I am writing this about my favorite haunt this year mind you. 1. The clown in the doll room was really lazy both times I went, didn't do much but just stand there. Maybe I just missed it though. 2. One particular zombie working outside seemed to only perform for the ladies really as if he was trying to pick up somebody more than be scary. That's it though.

Patron Flow Inside Attraction: We had no problems at all with flow in this house!!! It was great!

Appropriate Ages: 12+

Props / Special FX: This place was a masterpiece. Rarely going to haunts am I sold on the place alone, but if ever I was this is it. The real nature of this place looking and feeling like a mansion was out of this world. The lighting and atmosphere in and around this place, and even the build up outside was great! This weekend will be my third time visiting this haunt this season, and I cannot wait to bring another group of friends. The atmosphere from the bus ride through the woods, the walk to the mansion and the beauty of the mansion itself with all of the props you all have is a thing to see.

Costumes / Make-up: Costumes and makeup were creative and beautiful. I could tell tons of time were spent dreaming these up.

Summary: I love it guys! This place gets my vote for sure this year. I know there has been alot of trouble I am sure in terms of buses parking lots and the like, but what you have created, I cannot find anywhere else. Not even a cheap imitation. I hope Hell's Gate lives on, because this place is awesome. I will be getting in line a third time soon. Long live Hell's Gate!!!

Visibility/Location: Statesville is always easy to find using GPS. There are a ton of lights and parking people to direct you.

Wait Entertainment: Statesville has very good wait entertainment as always. The music in the waiting tents may be a bit loud though. I always enjoy seeing fluffy, and various other actors jumping through lines and messing with people as they wait. I even had a chainsaw that started at my feet and worked its way up between me legs from behind me. Pretty good stuff, if your into that sort of thing. LOL

Length of Event: The house itself is about 20 minutes long. The line can be another matter depending on how busy it is. Our total time on the date we arrived from when we parked to when we pulled out was about 2 hours.

Actor Performance: The actors were great. There was some very interesting makeup and unique characters that seemed new this year. There were plenty of living snakes and rats being held by actors as well for the added touch. My favorite experience happened in one of the jail cells near the beginning of the haunt. There was a tall husky guy, built just like me. As I walked into the room he was messing with the group in front of us. When he met eyes with me his doppelganger He began to sing... "Aaaat Laaaaast my LOOOVE has come along" It was pretty stinking funny! Props to the big man. I always enjoy actors who do not just repeat a line through the entire night, but rather interact with customers. Statesville had their share of this, though there is always room for improvement.

Patron Flow Inside Attraction: The flow was fine. We did not run into other groups in a way that stole the show. We had a few bump ins, but that is to be expected with all the tight spaces in Statesville.

Appropriate Ages: 14 +

Props / Special FX: While there are many special fx props that Statesville has had and used for years, they still do the job. There isn't any bare space at Statesville. They know how to pack it full.

Costumes / Make-up: As mentioned above, the makeup and costumes have gotten more creative as the years have gone on. You definitely felt like you were in another world in there, which is what you should feel. Great work

Summary: I used to dislike Statesville when I was younger and working at a rival (in my eyes) haunt. Since that has ended I must give them my respect in every way possible. They do it well every year! The creativity in each of their actors and characters is astounding. And they continue to do things their way in an industry that has been very impacted by haunt franchise chains. I make a couple trips every year to Statesville, and I have never been disappointed. Props to all the hard working people running parking and tickets as well. It is the thankless part of the job, and your good attitudes in serving patrons shines as well. Keep up the great work guys. See you again soon!
