Summary:
The Raven's Grin
definitely isn't your typical Haunted House. It's
kind of like a haunted fun house, with equal doses of fright and
comic relief. The attraction is
filled with unique props and artwork, all created by the owner,
Jim Warfield. On your way through the house, you pass
through secret passages, twisting hallways, tunnels and
slides. One of the most popular features is the slide in
the "Bad Dreams Bedroom", which extends from the top
floor of the house down to the stone-walled wine cellar, 24 feet
below the surface of the earth! It is an exciting
ride! In fact, it's intense enough to have been made an
optional part of the tour.
Throughout the years,
before the Raven's Grin functioned as a haunted attraction, it
had been a bordello, a schoolhouse and an Oldsmobile
dealership. These days, not only is it a commercial
haunted house, but the building is also reportedly
haunted. Patrons have seen the ghost of a lady in a white
dress in one corner of the wine cellar, which is one of the most
haunted places in the Raven's Grin. More recently,
supernatural orbs have been seen in the front room of the
attraction, where all of the tours start. In fact, as part
of the tour, you get to hear some of the interesting haunted
history of the building.
This event is truley one
of a kind. It is so unique, in fact, that it has gained
national acclaim. The Raven's Grin has been featured on the
television shows like "Wild Chicago", "HGTV
Extreme Homes" and Comedy Central’s “Travel Sick”, as
well as being featured in many national publications, such as
National Geographic World Magazine. It has also been voted one
of the Top 13 Haunted Attractions in the country by Hauntworld
Magazine. This place has really made a name for itself over the
past 21 years. You definitely get a lot of "bang for
your buck" (only $12 for over an hour of entertainment).
The Raven's Grin Inn is definitely the most unique attraction
out there, so be sure to put it on your list of Haunt visits
this year!
Note: The
best time to visit the Raven's Grin is in the off-season, when
you can avoid the huge October crowds and get a more lengthy, in
depth and personalized tour. If you visit on non-October dates,
you also have the benefit of Jim Warfield, the creative force
behind the Raven's Grin, guiding the entire tour. Because The
Raven's Grin is open year-round (301 days a year), you can drop
in nearly any day for a tour!
