Summary:
The Ravens Grin
is not your typical haunted attraction; it is so much more. At
this event, you won't find the typical things that you
commonly see at other October attractions like spinning vortex
tunnels, chainsaws, and strobe lights. It is basically a haunted fun
house with an interesting mix of scares and humor.
Over the years, the structure itself, which was built in 1870, has
been everything from an Oldsmobile dealership to a brothel. Now
for the past 25 years or so, it has been a unique haunted
attraction, created by the wonderfully twisted mind of the
owner, Jim Warfield.
Another thing that sets
this attraction apart from other events is the fact that the
building is actually haunted. At the beginning of the
tour, patrons learn about the history of the building, including
some of the supernatural occurrences that have been witnessed
there. Throughout the years, customers have seen ghostly images,
brightly colored orbs, as well as experiencing various other
supernatural phenomenon.
On their trek through
the Raven's Grin, customers wind their way through coffin shaped
hallways and underground passages, encountering a unique
collection of interesting artwork and displays along the
way. There are also a couple of fun slides inside the
house, which the Ravens Grin has become famous for. The
slide in the "Bad Dreams Bedroom", which is quite an
intense experience, stretches from the top floor of the house,
down to the stone-walled wine cellar, 24 feet underground!
It is definitely a thrilling ride and it's worth going to the
Ravens Grin just for that experience
alone.
There is also an outdoor
portion of the tour, which really enhances the overall creepy
feel of the event. Patrons get to see the remains of Jim
Warfield's crashed spook-mobile, as well as walking through his
tomb. There is also a new display outside, which is creepy and otherworldly.
One of the great things about the Raven's Grin is the fact that
you always see something new every time you go there. The show
is constantly growing and evolving.
The Ravens Grin Inn is
an amazing attraction; the words in this review just don't do it
justice. It is an event that you must see for yourself. This attraction is
nationally renowned and for good reason. It has been featured in various television
shows like "Wild Chicago", "HGTV Extreme
Homes" and Comedy Centrals Travel Sick, as well as
in countless news broadcasts and various books. It is unlike any
other attraction that I've ever seen. The Ravens Grin is scary at times and funny
at others... and is always highly entertaining! Be sure to put
this attraction on your "must see" list. They are
open year-round!
Note:
The best time to visit the Raven's
Grin is in the off-season, when you can avoid the huge October
crowds and get a more lengthy, in depth and personalized tour.
If you visit on non-October dates, you also have the benefit of
Jim Warfield, the creative force behind the Raven's Grin,
guiding the entire tour. Because The Raven's Grin is open
year-round (301 days a year), you can drop in nearly any day for
a tour!
