Realm Of Terror
Behind Kristofs Entertainment Center

Reviewed By: The Walking Ned
Visibility/Location: Realm of Terror is located in Kristof's Entertainment Center, off of Rollins Road. I always seem to drive by it because it comes up on you suddenly in the middle of the street.
Wait Entertainment: There is an actor dressed like a homeless Santa Claus sitting out in front where you get tickets, using telling crude jokes and making people laugh. He added a bonus this year that, for a dollar, he will either twerk or give you a lap dance. I sadly didn't stay to see if anyone took him up on the offer. There were also other ghouls and chainsaw creatures that would try to scare you in line.
Admission Price: $25
Parking: Free
Length:

* = Since people move through haunted attractions at different rates, your time will vary. Note: The time shown here represents the actual time spent moving forward through the attraction. Time spent waiting in queue lines, staging areas, intro scenes, rules rooms and when traffic jams cause patrons to come to a halt, has been subtracted.

LPR: 1.508
LPR stands for Length/Price Ratio. It represents perceived value of an event, by comparing length vs price of admission. Higher numbers represent more value per dollar. Actual quality and/or entertainment value of an event are not factors in this calculation. Click Here to see how this event compares to others visited this year by the staff of HauntedIllinois.com.
Scare Factor: Very High
Crowd Control: We did end up connecting to the group in front of us, but I think that was due to their fear of the actors and animatronics than my group moving quick.

Summary:

The premise of this house is that the first half is set up like a science lab/movie house, and that there are cameras everywhere. When you first walk in, one of the actors explains this to you, and then you go in to another room where there is a video explaining the movie set up, and that there are now monsters wreaking havoc throughout the house. You then are sent down another corridor, where the groups are broken up in to sets of four.

Throughout the first half of the house all the rooms were set up like different science labs, some had tables were there experiments performed on bodies, some had morgue-like set ups where the had dead, bloody bodies on slabs in several states of decomposition, other rooms were set up like pharmaceutical labs, all the rooms had great gory details. The actors and props all looking realistic and scary, and there were many good pop outs coming at you from every direction. The actors in this haunt are trying to scare you a lot, and they do their job very well. They ended up also using a lot of strobes, so if you have a problem with strobe lighting, be ready. To say any more will give away too much, but I will say that they added more twists and turns in between rooms, with some good dark corridors, as well as low ceilings and ramped floors, which helped with the claustrophobic aspect that they were trying to achieve as well as make it difficult for tall people to maneuver.

The second half of the house was set up as a black maze, but had an added bonus of white strobe lights going off slowly, so your eyes never have a chance to adjust. In the past, they would either go off quickly, helping you to adjust better, or not be there at all. I enjoyed the slower blinking of the lights, because it made finding your way around the maze a lot more difficult than usual. They had bodies hanging down, which really gets in your way when you are trying to walk through the maze. You never know if you are bumping in to other people in the group, or a dead body. There was also several actors who pop out at you in there to help add to the fear.

The haunt was extremely scary, the more maze like aspect of the house in between rooms helped with the creepiness. The gore was even more disgusting than it has been in the past, and the pitch black strobe maze at the end was very disconcerting. The aspects they added this year only increased the scare factor, and this haunt ended up being on the better ones I have been to this year.
