Baldwin Asylum

Rantoul, IL 61866

Visibility/Location: There were a few signs on the main road of the haunt but major signage was pretty lacking. The building itself was lit up and surrounded by police lights to grab your attention.
Wait Entertainment: The Baldwin Asylum waiting area had a giant projector playing Halloween themed and otherwise spooky or twisted music videos. It was decorated with chains and fencing to look like the courtyard of an Asylum. There weren't any wait actors which was slightly disappointing.

LPR stands for Length/Price Ratio. It represents perceived value of an event, by comparing length vs price of admission. Higher numbers represent more value per dollar. Actual quality and/or entertainment value of an event are not factors in this calculation. Click Here to see how this event compares to others visited this year by the staff of HauntedIllinois.com.
Scare Factor: Medium-High
Crowd Control: Our group really struggled to stay between the other groups. It seemed like we were always running into the group ahead of us or the group behind us was catching up. The actors were great about being entertaining while we waited though.

Summary:

Rantoul really brought the fear this year! This haunt really caught me by surprise. I paid for a speed pass and even without one the wait wasn't unbearable. The scenery was very fun and higher quality than you would expect at only $15 a ticket. There were animatronics and moving floors and whole rooms that shook you about. The scares were timed well and were unique to this attraction. They start you off in a pitch black maze to throw you for a loop. There are a few different transitions that were very fun and unique; crawling to the next room through ovens and dark caves. The actors were funny when they needed to be and terrifying every other moment. They had great enthusiasm and awesome energy. Overall I think this is a great haunt for kids and adults alike. There was a few moments that stuck with me, a creepy coat room and a maze of sheets with clowns waiting to catch you off guard. I would definitely recommend visiting and would return again to this haunt.
