Haunted Haven
Rt. 40 & Grennan Road

Visibility/Location: There is a marquee board on Rt. 40 with a flashing arrow Indicating where to turn. You turn onto Grennan Road and follow it for a very short distance and then turn into a driveway and follow the poorly lit signs and arrows into a parking area in a corn field. There is plenty of parking. There is a barn in the grass right by the parking area. Walk past that barn toward the porta potties and camper trailer. The camper trailer is where you buy the tickets.
Wait Entertainment: I had three people in my group and there were only two porta potties there. I had to stand outside alone while I waited my turn. I could see actors in the distance but nobody bothered any of us while we stood in that area. We headed toward the camper trailer and bought our tickets and got our wristbands. I turned around and there was a clown standing directly behind me just waiting to yell and scare me. It worked. We were the only ones there at that time so we followed him through the roped off line area. There was a burn barrel along the way to help warm up the crowd if there was one. He stopped at a certain point, turned around to mark our wristbands and then we continued on. We walked up to a small bus and he climbed aboard and told us to follow him and have a seat. He did a great job keeping us entertained and interacting with us as he went through all the rules. He was hilarious! He had a suit on and a top hat over his big purple hair. Once he read all the rules we followed him out of the back of the bus and he told us where to go next. He stayed back so we were on our own at that point.
Admission Price: $12 but since it was raining and slow that night they only charged us $10.
Parking: Free
Length:

17 Minutes. The maze at the end will extend that time if you struggle to find the exit *
* = Since people move through haunted attractions at different rates, your time will vary. Note: The time shown here represents the actual time spent moving forward through the attraction. Time spent waiting in queue lines, staging areas, intro scenes, rules rooms and when traffic jams cause patrons to come to a halt, has been subtracted.

LPR: 4.958
LPR stands for Length/Price Ratio. It represents perceived value of an event, by comparing length vs price of admission. Higher numbers represent more value per dollar. Actual quality and/or entertainment value of an event are not factors in this calculation. Click Here to see how this event compares to others visited this year by the staff of HauntedIllinois.com.
Scare Factor: Medium-High
Crowd Control: It was a slow night because of the rain so the only time we saw another group was at the very end when we got stuck in the tarp maze and couldn\'t find our way out. We got to a dead end and turned around only to end up at the beginning again. We went back through and the same thing happened so I stopped my stopwatch thinking that an actor was just messing with us and would let us out eventually. That\'s when we bumped into the other group and we all worked together to try to get out. I finally found the exit and realized that there wasn\'t an actor messing with us or trying to keep us trapped in there. (My entire time spent in the maze was NOT figured into the event length. Your time could be much longer.)

Summary:

We started out by walking through a corn maze. There were all sorts of actors dressed as unidentified creepy crawlers, scarecrows and monsters. It was dark so it was pretty hard to tell what their costumes were but I will give them a lot of credit because they were still crawling around on the wet, soggy ground in the corn field. The weather didn\'t stop them from putting on their show. Once we figured out that maze we went into what I could best guess was a swamp room. It was outside and had a lot of cloth strips hanging from the ceiling and it was damp because of the rain so it added to the effect. There was an actor in there who didn\'t seem to be dressed particularly scary but she was using a Cajun accent as she followed us around while threatening to keep one of the members of my group. There were plenty of actors in there to keep it interesting. There were rooms I haven\'t experienced before. For example, at one point you hide in a closet with an actor who tells you to keep quiet so the killer in the main room doesn\'t find you. There were lots and lots of well put together clowns. There was one who snuck up on us with a loud horn with a light on it and one who spun the floor underneath us. We never knew where the actors would come from. When we got done in the last room a clown opened the door, let us outside and locked the door behind us. That\'s where we entered the tarp maze that I mentioned above. We spent a lot of time trying to get out of there. We didn\'t see a single actor in the maze and that surprised me. I finally found the exit after multiple times of hitting the dead end and turning around just to end up at the beginning again and then turning around to hit a dead end again. I promise that there is an exit and that it\'s there the whole time. It could have used an actor or two at the end as we walked out off the maze. That one last scare right when we thought it was over would have been a nice touch. My group and I really liked this one. It was well worth the money.
