Hauntedillinois.com - Haunted Illinois visits Salem Massachusetts, home of the infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692

Salem Wax Museum
288 Derby Street
Salem, Massachusetts
http://www.salemwaxmuseum.com

This museum consisted of several static scenes, each one featuring realistic wax figures that were crafted in London. The scenes depicted maritime culture of the 1600s, as well as scenes of the witch trials and hangings.  All of these scenes illustrated Salem's history, from its founding in 1626, all the way through the hysteria of the witch trials in 1692.

Witch History Museum
197 Essex Street
Salem, Massachusetts
http://www.witchhistorymuseum.com/witchhistory.html

This attraction was a guided tour through history.  Patrons walked through fifteen static scenes, each depicting events in Salem history, while the tour guide shared many interesting facts about time and science (or the lack thereof) back then. Back in the 1600's, people were accused of witchery, based on false proof or merely suspicion.  Old-time Scientists (using the term loosely) were convinced that they could tell if a person was a witch, by the measurements of their skull.

Witches Cottage @ The Griffen Theatre
7 Lynde Street
Salem, Massachusetts
http://witchescottagesalem.com

The Witches Cottage used a number of theatrical skits to explore the history of witchcraft folklore. This theatrical production used live actors, creepy lighting and sound effects, to tell tales of shape-shifting, sorcery and specters.   At the end, the actors led a discussion regarding witchcraft in contemporary America, hoping to dispel many of  the myths and misconceptions about witches in society today.
