2009 East Coast Haunt Club: New England Haunter's Gathering On Saturday, August 1st, more than 130 Halloween enthusiasts gathered at the Fright Kingdom (Nashua, NH) for the East Coast Haunt Club's 9th Annual "New England Haunter's Gathering". Throughout the day, there was a variety of seminars and hands-on demonstrations. There were also some great social networking opportunities, as well. The silent auction raised $1,369.00 for Team Halloween, with the proceeds being donated to the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition. In the evening there was a nice buffet-style dinner and magic show. It was a great time and I look forward to seeing what they have planned for the event next year.
101 Uses for PVC... OK, more like 10 What can you build with PVC pipe? Well, based on what was presented in this seminar, I would have to say just about everything. During his seminar, Victor showed how PVC can be shaped with heat, to create curved pieces or even flattened, to reproduce just about any shape imaginable. He explained that PVC is easy to work with, inexpensive and durable, so it is the perfect material for home haunters to use, to build props for outdoor displays. There was also a demonstration on how to waterproof with fiberglass, as well as another segment describing how to create a simple water cylinder, to move props at your haunt.
Ghosthunting 101 Ghosthunting 101 was a very interesting seminar by 10 year veteran ghost hunter Laura Guiliano. She shared some of her experiences with ghost hunting, as well as showing off some of the interesting tools that are used in the trade. There were also sound clips, along with a slide show, to help illustrate how ghost hunters differentiate between supernatural phenomena and what can be explained scientifically.
Let there be light! Jim's seminar focused on the "Light-O-Rama" hardware platform (available from MonsterGuts), demonstrating how it could be used to synchronize light, sound and various other elements of your haunted attraction or yard haunt. With the aid of a slide-show, he explained how simple and easy the system was to set up, configure and program.
