2017 Transworld Review: After Hours

During week of the Halloween & Attractions Show, there were many activities to keep show attendees busy after the show floor closed for the day. A couple of the show-sponsored events were the Pre-Show Party and Opening Night Party, held on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

On Friday, show attendees had the opportunity to go to the City Museum Party, which was sponsored by Froggy's Fog and Donat Insurance. A private party room was reserved at the City Museum, where attendees could mingle with other haunters, while having dinner and drinks. This year they added something different… a scavenger hunt. Prior to the party, 5 golden frogs were hidden in various places inside the museum. Those party-goers lucky enough to find one of the frogs could turn it in for a prize. As long as the trade show has been in St. Louis, The City Museum has always been a haunter favorite. While many came for the party, others were there just to explore the myriad of passages and oddities inside the museum.

New for this year was a party called "Voodoo Soiree". It was originally scheduled to be held at The Kitchen Sink, which is a local restaurant near the convention center. It was a great venue for a themed party like this, since they serve New Orleans style dishes.

This event had generated a lot of buzz online. There was so much interest, in fact, that the party sold out shortly after it was announced. Due to the overwhelming response that they received, TransWorld Trade Shows, LLC decided to move the party to a larger venue (a ballroom at the convention center) so that more people could attend.

Not everyone was a fan of the move, though. For me personally... I was really looking forward to sampling some of the Kitchen Sink's creole cuisine. Also, the convention center ballroom was a bit lacking in theme for a voodoo party, but I guess there's only so much you can do when you have to change venues on short notice.

Although the atmosphere could have been improved, the party was a blast. The DJ from Basement of the Dead was there to entertain everyone with both contemporary and retro dance hits. The ballroom was huge, with lots of tables for people to sit and socialize. I don't have an official count, but there had to be at least a few hundred people there and there were a lot of great creative costumes that fit in with the voodoo theme. Each corner of the room had an Hors d'oeuvre station with a nacho bar and there was a large cash bar in the center of the room.

During the weekend, The Darkness Haunted House held behind the scenes tours of their haunted house & escape rooms. Other after-hours activities included The Haunted Attraction Association State of the Industry Seminar, The Haunted Attraction Association OSCARES Awards Banquet and Haunted Attraction Association Live Auction, as well as various local St. Louis tourist attractions. The bar at the host hotel (Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel) was also a popular place for haunters to congregate. Between show sponsored events and local attractions, there definitely wasn't a shortage of things to do in the evening!
