|Scare Factor: High | Atmosphere: Very Good|
Visibility/Location: This is a fairly small town, they had signs as I came into town and the Haunted House was lit up with a huge sign, there was a lot of activity going on in the park...easy to find actually.
Wait Entertainment: In the park, they had some group doing "fire spinning", these guys were amazing, great addition to the mood. Several actors roaming around, one actor in full make up with goggles was amazing, and the mummy dude was really authentic, nice job.
Length of Event: The vortex was as long as you wanted to "play" inside. The Haunted House was about a ten minute tour.
Actor Performance: They really amped it up this year, every single one of the actors stayed in character, some ...like the lady in the shack scene was downright creepy, she kept chanting softly as we left, I had that in my head the whole night! The other scenes were just as good, the guy in the scene with the chainsaw was just evil looking, and the effect they had set up literally blew our group away. The Undertaker in the funeral parlor was very talented, creepy and realistic. The King in the dungeon was equally good, all around a great group, they always seem to get great actors at this event.
Patron Flow Inside Attraction: We had a front tour guide, they kept us moving along at a pace that allowed for us to get the most out of each distraction/scare, during the maze portion, they let us find our own way out...very nice, no ropes or cheating with flashlights, started things off great !
Appropriate Ages: 10+ for the Haunted House, all ages for the vortex and hay rack rides.
Props / Special FX: This event relied heavily on detail scenes and actors with nicely timed scares, I'm not a fan of high end air driven fake spooks anyway. Great atmosphere in the shack scene without the need for special effects.
Costumes / Make-up: I have been going to this event for a few years now, this year, they had over the top, amazing make-up, some masks too, but the make up and the actors believability made all the difference this year.
Summary: This event still only costs a dollar! They made the vortex a separate attraction, I talked with the guy who heads this event, he explained that some liked the vortex and not a scare and others, vice versa. You also get a hay rack ride included, plus they give you FREE hot dogs to boot. The haunted house was two blocks away, you could walk or ride the hay racks. The line was not too long, an hour is reasonable for this time of year I thought. The guys doing fire tricks were really cool. My gang really enjoyed the maze, there was an area that was tight, I talked with the event organizer, he is no small guy, he said if he turns sideways he slides right by, very cool claustrophobic area if you ask me. Whoever they had doing the chainsaw scene gets my top honors, he was scary and the air blast and strobe just made it perfect, really good scare! They do an awesome job every year, we really enjoy the whole experience. They are well on their way to becoming an annual favorite for us, a must see!
