Visibility/Location: Parking was mildly cramped, although that was expected for this large event. It was easy to find though.

Wait Entertainment: They had a few scareactors running around, and some good atmospheric props. And it's always nice to see the people being chased out of the haunted house.

Length of Event: 45 min- 1 hr.

Actor Performance: They were pretty lively, and energetic

Patron Flow Inside Attraction: Good. No backups at all.

Appropriate Ages: 12+

Props / Special FX: Nice props throughout the haunted house. Great lighting as well.

Costumes / Make-up: Costumes were pretty good, and the makeup was great. Good quaality.

Summary: My friend and I love to go to haunted houses together and have a good time. For years her and I had been hearing about how awesome and scary Statesville was from people. We saw the $30-$40 price per ticket (we ended up getting the VIP/$40) and hoped it was as good as people were saying. But in the end, coming out of the haunted house… we couldn’t help but feel let down. For us it didn’t live up to the hype. The scares weren’t as intense as they are advertised to be, and it seemed like the actors were more focused on screaming into your face and ears than they were giving a truly unsettling performance. And on top of that some of the characters broke character as we were in their room. That’s kind of a big “no-no” for me.
The atmosphere was great, as was the makeup. The props and lighting of every room was a real treat, and for me these were the areas where Statesville shined the most.
Overall it was a visual treat, but visual treats to me don’t completely warrant that kind of price. I know some people enjoyed it, because I heard the screams and saw people running out of the house. But I sadly cannot give Statesville Haunted Prison as good of a review as I would like to. The scares were poor for me, and the actors really need to stay in character.
