| Overall Score:|
|Scare Factor: Very High | Atmosphere: Very Good|
Visibility/Location: Spook Hollow is located in the small village of Marquette Heights, main road signs mark the attraction ... Just follow the line of cars to the event, it's a large draw attraction .
Wait Entertainment: Lots of interesting stuff to observe while waiting in line, projection screens for entertainment, CGI effects in the windows of the mock haunted house exterior, and various monsters walking throughout the lines..
Length of Event: The event is hard to time out because there are various waiting lines as you pass from house to trail, various other delays throughout the trail... However; I would guess around 25 minutes or slightly more on actual attraction events ..
Actor Performance: Everyone tonight was right on their marks, no issues except the younger kids just didn't give it there best shot... As for the haunted house everyone involved gave there best, nobody broke character except one guy in the front section (room 2 I believe) who scolded a young woman with kids because she panicky reached out a touched a pop out prop - no harm but he did break character long enough to make a complete a@@ (censored) of himself !
Patron Flow Inside Attraction: The flow here is a real issue and after all these years continues to be, with one line after another line waiting to enter the events, literally 5 stops tonight after entering ... These issues really could use some professional help with this, they totally throw off a lot of the horror factor !
Appropriate Ages: I would suggest 10 years at least, there is a lot of in-your-face stuff here and a considerable amount of walking ..
Props / Special FX: The special effects are set to perfection, there are some timing issues however it's manageable .. There are CGI effects (getting somewhat dated) and a considerable amount of automation effects, there is plenty of activity going on inside the haunted house event - the trail could use considerable more...
The surrounding basic props are fantastic and there's more to see here than you'll have time to..
Costumes / Make-up: The characters makeup and costumes are perfect, they really have always excelled with this and this year was no different - very professional!
Summary: We attend this event ever year and have since the beginning, they have a reputation for giving you a great bang for your buck and therefore a very large draw from Central Illinois ...
This event has the numbers, however it would be nice to see some major changes (the house is almost exactly the same as the last couple years) in the house and definately more on the trail .. The trail this year was interesting with the more tight space (not recommended for people who are claustrophobic) walking through various low level and compact structures.. The haunted trail was somewhat intriguing (same as last year) however no automated props, no CGI effects, and somewhat lacking the usual sounds of horror effects - definately there is a much needed work here ! As indicated before the haunted house was very good, but in need of some major tweaking and explanation - this event draws big money and should be used to enlarge the house structure and expand the length to control crowd control issues, and definately more effort to create a higher tech trail ...
Overall, if you have never attended this event it's highly recommended, however if you are returning again, it's almost the same event as last year..
Also note that it's recommended to go with he Speed Pass ($40.00) to bypass a lot of waiting time..
