THE BARTONVILLE INSANE ASYLUM is now under new ownership and is being open for tours to the public. http://www.ghostasylum.com/ghost_asylum_-_you_gotta_be_crazy_002.htm
Built in 1902, it is also known as the Peoria State Hospital, and the Illinois Hospital for the Incurable Insane, was a mental health hospital operated by the State of Illinois. It was abandoned in 1973.
Most of the out buildings have since fell to ruin or been demolished but the main building known as the Bowen building still stands. This place has been an urban legend for hauntings even before it closed its doors. It has one famous legend of the man known only as Bookbinder. Here are some links .

Post I know this place. Reply with quote
Recently a customer taking my tour told me the following: He (they?) were in the attic of this place, looking down to the basement through a hole rotted all the way through the building. A tricycle fell (or they pushed it?) into the hole, they enjopyed watching is float down then crash against the basement floor.
The made their way down to the basement and there was no trike down there?
They returned to the attic and there was the trike!?
(I don't know? People just tell me these things.)
My Grandmother was in Bartonville in the 1960's when it was a nursing home, she passed away there, I visited her there once, she was hallucinating some fun, funny stuff, she told me that she had been in a parade the day before(she was bedridden) and how she was wearing a large sombreo hat, having a fun time! She said all of this with a gleam in her eye, her gleam was about all that was left of her. I was happy that she was happy.
I had never been in an 100 year old building with piss stains 8 foot high on the wall paper before, I was impressed!, although the smell was overpowering!
Can urine smells create hallucinations?
Maybe I'll have a Transworld booth selling "special" hallucination creating wall paper?
