Boo Crew Haunted House
11083 Buckhart Road
Mechanicsburg, IL 62545

Visibility/Location: This haunt has changed its location. It is now located in Mechanicsburg. Just go to Main Street in Rochester and head south east towards Mechanicsburg. We programmed our GPS with the address given and it took us straight there. However, there was no signage along the way to let us know we were going the right way. Since this is the first year for this location some signs along the routes would let customers know they are going the right way.
Wait Entertainment: We were there close to the end of the night, but I have to say that never matters with this haunt. They have their waiting area entirely inside. The room is painted and decorated eerie with laser lights shining around. There is a big screen TV playing a movie or skits made specifically by the crew to go with the theme of the haunt. They change their theme every year. This year the movie playing was “How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse” along with another cartoon movie. They also play music in the waiting area and there were a couple actors in makeup and costume strolling through the line scaring people.

Crowd Control: The Boo Crew usually does a great job of crowd control. If your group is getting close to another group they usually stall you in a room to keep the flow smooth. This year we actually had two groups catch up to us, but we were going through at a leisurely pace to enjoy all the haunts details. This is the first time I have had this happen in this haunt. But it was opening weekend and almost closing time.

From the beginning of this haunt as you walk through the spooky woods, to the haunt waiting area, to the end, this haunt always delivers.

As you enter the haunt you are walking through an area with an actor and then he just leaves you. Our group was completely unsure of where to proceed from that point. Do we follow the actor or go forward. We choose forward and entered the first room of the haunt that had a mirror with holographic person talking. The room had great detail it had a staircase and a big fireplace. We were looking at the actor and the talking mirror and then all of the sudden we had a large puff of cold smoke blown at us. It distracted us to the staircase opening. It was a great use of distraction.

This event had several detailed rooms as well as lots of halls. The halls were filled with rattling bottles and holographic pictures and mirrors. I can’t say enough how well this group does with detail.

As you walk on you come to a kitchen and are greeted by an actor dressed as a bloody butcher. You have to walk down through her refrigerator to pass her. Moving along you end up in the old music room. The actor that is following you through the room distracts you from the person playing the piano. She/he completely looked like a prop.

Walking into the spider area you have fishing line hanging down to look like spider web and it touches you as you pass into a room with a giant animated spider. Passing along you come into a vortex and have people follow you into it, and there are some waiting for you when you get out of it as well. The end of this haunt was really good this year. Usually haunts end with chasing the customers out the door scaring them, but this one confuses its patrons with a clown room and many doors. We spent several minutes being misdirected by several clowns.

There are actors everywhere. Some are dressed to look like parts of the scenery and others are dressed up elaborately in costume and makeup. There are clowns, zombies, spiders, a vortex, tight spaces, and a squeeze tunnel….something for every fear. This haunt serves up plenty of scares.
