Visibility/Location: Midway of Madness Haunted Barn is located on the Champaign County Fairgrounds. There are signs at the entrance of the haunt and a well-lit parking area.

There is a very large parking area, so parking is not an issue. You can park and it is a very short walk to the event.

If you use GPS, it will take you right to the entrance.
Wait Entertainment: In the past, it was hard to find where you would buy tickets; but this year they had a red and white carnival ticket tent set up.

Once you buy you tickets you walk into a covered waiting area. As you stand in line there is a little evil clown girl that walks through the crowd. Every now and then you would hear a screech or a scream from her sneaking up on her unsuspecting victims. Normally, I do not find children scary; but this girl remained in character and would not even talk when spoken to.

While standing in line there was plenty of refreshments that you could purchase. A food wagon and another food vendor where you could get State Fair Mini Donuts and hot chocolate to keep you warm while waiting.
The line this year was situated that you could watch people come out of the haunted barn, running!
Admission Price: $12.00

Scare Factor: High
Crowd Control: Patrons are spaced out very well in this house. We never ran into another group nor did another group run into us.

When we were at the front of the line, were asked how many people were in our group. I said 2 and the girl asked if I mind going with another group of 3. I said yes, just due to the fact that I knew that a group of 5 could fit into the house with everyone experiencing the scares.
Once we were in the house, you came down a dark hallway with another ticket booth at the end. Once you were at the ticket booth, a possessed woman came at you. As we turned the corner a man yelled at me and said, “No, No, come sit!” The 3 people we were with were gone, running ahead.

As we sat on metal folding chairs the, and the man read through a couple of rules and then asked if was date night, and then all of the sudden the rule wall fell in towards us and our chairs raised and jolted forward. He then looked at us and said “Have fun!”
Once we were set loose into the house, we entered a dark hallway and were surprised by a pneumatic prop coming from wall. The narrow dark passage way became pitch black. You could hear noises; but were unsure if someone was in the hallways with you until you started hearing the evil clown laughing. I thought this was one of the best pitch black hallways I have been in.

Once out of the hallways you started hearing carnival music and you found yourself in the middle of the carnival midway. The carnival games were games you did not want to play, plus who wants a bloody bear as a prize. A great actor performance came from the duck game. Once you came upon that game there was a jump scare and then a clown that was crawling came after you fast!

I have been in tons of haunted houses that have had the blow up black tunnel inside. They tend to get very boring after you go through so many; but props to Midway of Madness Haunted Barn for adding another sensory prop while you were moving through it- the floor moved! It made it hard to get through the tunnel.

You are then shoved through a cattle stockade where the actors are jumping out at you and yelling, “Snuggles is waiting”. If makes you wonder, when Snuggles is coming and what is Snuggles? Well Snuggles does come out to play and another scare come from out of nowhere.

If you have ever seen the movie Wrong Turn, be prepared. We walked into an area that looked like is right out of that movie. 2 bloody, messed up guys came right at us, trying to block the exit to that room. As they move into your personal space, you find yourself moving faster.
Turning the corner you could smell the corn stalks and then another turn you found yourself walking down a long dimly lit hallway of corn stalks. About halfway down the hall the lights went out. Once the lights came on, there was the scarecrow waiting for you.

Walking around another corner you saw a scarecrow standing in the middle of the hallway. Out of nowhere behind you, you hear a chainsaw coming up fast behind you. Was a great ending!!

Midway of Madness has always done a great job with actors remaining in character. Character wear masks and make-up and all fit with their scenes very well.

They do use some scenes that have previously used before; but add new scenes and scares to keep victims jumping. They use pneumatics to get those scares but tend to use their old fashioned jump scares to their advantage.

Make sure you that if you are in the Champaign area that you are stopping for a visit at Midway of Madness Haunted Barn. For the price and time spent in the haunt it is a really good bargain. Plus, they guarantee that you will be running out of their house screaming!
