Summary:
Fables Studios often comes up with creative twists to their haunted houses, and this time they have combined the scares of a haunted house with the fun of shooting things.
In Warehouse X, you're not simply at the mercy of all of the denizens of the haunt. This time you have the chance to shoot back at them. As mentioned earlier, Warehouse X is located inside of Paintball Explosion, which is a giant multilevel indoor paintball arena.
Before entering, visitors are given weapons with 30 magazines of 30 rounds each - these weapons fire lights that visitors use to shoot the characters inside.
Once inside, the existing paintball arena serves as the haunted house, with many areas where creatures can hide and jump out. As visitors are armed, the characters take it up a notch and often rush at them until the visitors shoot them down. Of course, nothing stays dead inside of a haunted house, so the characters often return, sneaking up from behind or slipping into another area.
There were many instances of characters "dying" due to being shot and the quietly slipping away into the darkness and positioning themselves for a better scare. It made for an environment where one was constantly watching over one's shoulder and looking closely for any signs of movement.
The lighting inside is dark, with only certain areas illuminated, so visitors find themselves constantly peering into the shadows to see if there is a creature waiting for them. All of this adds another element to the haunt, as not only are you simply passively experiencing the sights and sounds, but you are working your way through the haunt in a tactical fashion to protect yourselves from the characters.
Set design mostly used the existing arena's walls and rooms, but there were some rooms with Halloween specific props and scares. The actors were varied, from those that taunted visitors, to those that were attempting to be "friendly", to crazy characters, to creepy ones.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable experience that was different than the traditional haunted house. The existing arena reduced the need for sets, and the shooting aspect reduced the need for elaborate costuming and makeup (although there was some of that as well).
If you've ever wanted to actually fight back against the characters in a haunt and not get thrown out for doing it, give Warehouse X a shot (pun intended)!
