Haunted Haven

Visibility/Location: Haunted Haven is located off of Route 40 at Grennan Road. There was a large lit arrow sign at the intersection signaling where to turn. In addition, the brightly lit outdoor area and large barn would be hard to miss.
Wait Entertainment: We saw a couple of masked characters outside while waiting for entry into the show. There were music videos playing via projector onto the front of the barn on the property. We were not bored while waiting for our turn.
Admission Price: $12
Parking: Free

* = Since people move through haunted attractions at different rates, your time will vary. Note: The time shown here represents the actual time spent moving forward through the attraction. Time spent waiting in queue lines, staging areas, intro scenes, rules rooms and when traffic jams cause patrons to come to a halt, has been subtracted.

LPR: 4.033
LPR stands for Length/Price Ratio. It represents perceived value of an event, by comparing length vs price of admission. Higher numbers represent more value per dollar. Actual quality and/or entertainment value of an event are not factors in this calculation. Click Here to see how this event compares to others visited this year by the staff of HauntedIllinois.com.
Scare Factor: Medium
Crowd Control: I did not see another group at all while we were inside of the haunt. They have always done a great job with separating groups here.
Safety Precautions: Before we even got to the ticket booth, we found a table where we were asked to stop and get our temperatures taken and recorded. Our names and phone numbers were taken, along with the time of our visit. There was sanitizer available for us to use. Then when we approached the ticket booth, we noticed plexiglass between ourselves and the staff. We were told then that the haunt was currently empty of patrons for the show’s hourly sanitizing treatment. All of the staff members had masks on at all times, and they did a great job making sure that people kept their masks on, even while outside. The queue line area was set up so that guests would be a safe distance away from other groups.

*Please note that these are the safety precautions that were observed by us during our visit. There may be more that we did not see, and it is completely possible that there are more precautions being taken than those that are listed here.

Summary:

When it was our turn, we were welcomed into a drive-in movie theater scene, complete with an old pick-up truck and a projector pointing at a large screen. The movie that read off the rules for the show was very clever and well done. After watching the movie, we were led into an outdoor trail that winded around numerous creepy characters, several scenes and eerie lighting effects.

We eventually found the entrance to the barn and found a convincing and detailed Egyptian mummy themed room. An explorer rushed us in and directed us to a safe exit while a mummy escaped from the walls and started chasing us. We walked through a swamp area and into a house, where we found a living room scene. We passed through a hallway that had a unique and nerve-wracking effect as we walked by.

We found a laboratory wherein we were asked to contribute to the collection of a specimen. We witnessed an experiment done by a mad scientist, and the victim there did a great job of acting in her scene. The actress in the next room also did a great job of warning us of an invisible predator. We then found a theater scene where we were impressed by the sets, props, sounds, and acting.

We eventually found the infamous clown area of Haunted Haven. This space did not disappoint. All of the clowns brought all of their energy. They toyed with our minds and they laughed all along the way. The designs and sounds in the clown area were perfect; bright and loud. Once the clowns released us from their grip in the space that they dominate, we were chased away from the barn by a chainsaw wielding maniac.

I absolutely loved our visit to Haunted Haven this year. They did an amazing job with the scenery outside and inside. The drive-in theater was an amazing addition, and the classic movie theme inside was done so well. All of the characters did a great job of conveying their stories. Their show is never the same as the year before, so I recommend making the trip to Rock Falls as often as possible to see a fresh and unique Halloween event.
