Visibility/Location: The Haunt location was right on the main road. There is a clear sign pointing to the location and the lights and activity around it make the location very clear. Parking is in a grass field right next to the haunt. Despite the rain the upper parking area was still firm. There appeared to be an area slightly lower which may or not have been in equally good shape.
Wait Entertainment: There was an actor wandering around the outside the entrance scaring customers. Inside the covered portion where the line formed there was a TV playing some videos and there may have been a stage for a live band, however there was no band at the time of this visit. We arrived just after 7 pm and the wait was only about 10 minutes.
Admission Price: The $20 price included admission to both the Trial of Souls and the haunted house. There was an additional fee if you order tickets online. There did not seem to be any real distinction between the two events since the trail leads directly to the entrance of the house.
Parking: There was no charge for parking.
Length:

The Trial of Lost Souls required 17 minutes while the House required 11.5 minutes. There is a check point as you enter the house to separate groups that may have gotten too close together on the trail. *
* = Since people move through haunted attractions at different rates, your time will vary. Note: The time shown here represents the actual time spent moving forward through the attraction. Time spent waiting in queue lines, staging areas, intro scenes, rules rooms and when traffic jams cause patrons to come to a halt, has been subtracted.

LPR: 5.711
LPR stands for Length/Price Ratio. It represents perceived value of an event, by comparing length vs price of admission. Higher numbers represent more value per dollar. Actual quality and/or entertainment value of an event are not factors in this calculation. Click Here to see how this event compares to others visited this year by the staff of HauntedIllinois.com.
Scare Factor: The scare factor for the Trail was medium high. There were some sections where there were no animatronics or actors but then others with very good scares. The darkness of the woods provides some of the atmosphere for the Trail of the Lost Souls. The trial also included startle scares and a couple of impressive animatronics. The scare factor in the house was high. There are a number of startle scares. The house contains quite a few impressive animations as well as a good mix of actors. There is a short dark area in the house. There are no squeeze or crawl elements. There are also some nice projection displays in the house.
Crowd Control: Either one large or two smaller groups caught up with us during the Trail of Souls. Because the Trail is literally in a wooded area it was sometimes difficult to determine for certain rather you were on the correct trail. While at no time did we get off the trail, the constant concern added to the overall experience. The uncertainty may cause groups to move unusually slowly. In the haunted house the separation was better and we neither caught other groups nor did the trailing group catch us.

Summary:

One of the important items to note immediately is that Covid protocols at the haunt requires a minimum of 4 tickets purchased. In this way they avoid combining groups to enter the haunt. They also maintain other covid protocols including masking. The experience starts in a small cabin where they scan your tickets. The ticket taker is in costume. At this time you view a short video on the background of the haunt and the rules. The ticket taker re-emphasized a couple of items. This section took no more than 2 minutes. You then enter the Trail of Souls. Due to recent rains the trail had a couple of soft spots however they laid down wood chips so visitors should not be concerned about muddy conditions. Look for an early very large animatronic effect to come out of the woods. There were many excellent areas on the trail but there were also areas between where very little was happening. The buildings on the trial appear to be permanent but in discussions we found that they were built on pallets and could be moved. One of the most impressive pieces on the trail was the mausoleum. The attention to detail both inside and out was obvious. Inside the mausoleum they had both actors and animations at work. After the mausoleum the trail continues. What I think was the best scare was set up by a very ordinary event. I will not ruin the surprise, but I think aficionados will really appreciate the subtly of the setup. The trail ends at the house. At this point there is a checkpoint to separate groups. The house is described as an old hotel with some unstable guests. Once you enter the house there are a large number of well done and very imaginative animatronics. The noise and vibrations in one area provided a very effective scare. They nicely use a couple of areas right at the beginning to make it appear like a dead end only to provide a scare and then direct the group to the correct route. These areas featured an interactive element where you had to do something to start the scare. In one portion you stepped into an area with two elevators and no other way out. One of the elevators is broken while the other had a lighted button. It seems obvious that pushing the button is a trap so people in the group debated about who would not push the button. This haunt is a bit off the beaten path but they have done a great job of building a compete experience.
